FORSYTH, Mo. -- Starting Jan. 13, 2014, Taney County residents will have the opportunity to vote for nine new University of Missouri Extension Council candidates.
The Taney County Extension Council functions much like a school board. Elected members provide budget oversight, assist in developing programming, review policies and evaluate the professional staff, among other duties. The newly elected council members will assume their duties in March 2014. The annual council election is mandated by Missouri State Statutes.
“This will be the fifth year county residents will be able to vote online instead of using a paper ballot. Any Taney County resident 18 or older can vote by logging onto our web site at www.extension.missouri.edu/taney and clicking on the “2014 Council Election” link.
Voters will be asked to select an Eastern or Western district ballot based on their past voting in county commission elections. Once there, residents will be asked to vote for five council candidates for the eastern district and four on the west.
Online voting will be open from January 13-19, 2014, according to Chrystal Irons, county program director for the local University of Missouri Extension office. The link will only be active during the above dates.
Residents without internet access or those who would prefer a paper ballot can request one by calling 1-417-546-4431 (toll free1-888-504-0443) or visiting the Taney County Extension Office at 122 Felkins Avenue in Forsyth (east of the new Taney County Judicial Center) from Jan. 13 through Jan. 19. Paper ballots must be postmarked and returned to the Taney County Extension office no later than Jan. 19, 2014.
Biographies of the candidates will be available on the web site or can be requested by calling or stopping by the Taney County Extension office.
