Extension Hosting Beef/Forage Tour at Southwest Research Center on Aug. 24

MT. VERNON, Mo. -- University of Missouri Extension will host a beef cattle/forage tour and educational program starting at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 at the Southwest Research Center, located on Hwy. H about two miles south of exit 44 on I-44.

The tour stops will include:  fescue toxicity trials, making big round bale haylage, residual feed intake study, heat synchronization, AI and fall weed control.

Dr. Rob Kallenbach, state extension forage specialist will guide the educational tour that will showcase some of the important beef related research underway at the center.

The event is a cooperative effort of the Southwest Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, the Southwest Research Center, University of Missouri Extension and Missouri Simmental Association.

A ribeye steak sandwich supper will be prepared by members of the Southwest Missouri Cattlemen Association and is sponsored by Genex Cooperative Inc., Dow Chemical and Main Street Feeds.

Persons planning to attend the evening meal at 5:30 p.m. should make reservations before Aug. 19 by calling the Lawrence County Extension Center at 417-466-3102.
