New MU Extension Community Development Specialist Serving Lebanon

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Marc (Pat) Curry was recently hired as a county development specialist with University of Missouri Extension and will be serving Polk, Dallas, Laclede, Webster, Wright and Texas counties.

Name/title: Marc (Pat) Curry

Coverage area:  Polk, Dallas, Laclede, Texas, Webster and Wright counties

Education Background: Bachelor’s degree in agriculture from the University of Missouri; Masters in geography from Southern Illinois University.

Job Responsibilities:  Develop, deliver and evaluate education and applied research programs focused on improving lives, communities and economies. Create partnerships with civic and business organizations, educational institutions, local leaders and key stakeholder to identify priorities, increase financial and in-kind resources, and determine how research-based education can best meet the needs of communities.

How does your work impact residents of Laclede, Polk, Dallas, Webster, Wright and Texas counties?  “My work should enhance communication and conflict resolution skills in those counties, improve economic development and job creation potential, enhance decision-making capacity, and increased number and quality of leaders,” said Curry.
 
What are some goals you have for the coming year? “To implement leadership development programs in at least two counties; create a regional dashboard of economic, demographic and socioeconomic indicators to provide decision-makers useful information on demand; increase the number of successful entrepreneurs; and increase the number of communities and counties that have community economic development plans,” said Curry.

Is there a group you are targeting for your services?  “I’ll be targeting my programs toward economic development organizations, county and municipal governments, nonprofit organizations, planning agencies and other individuals and organizations promoting community and economic development,” said Curry.

Where are residents of southwest Missouri most likely to see you? “Running and hiking on trails across the Ozarks, floating and fishing our beautiful spring fed rivers, and hanging out with family and friends,” said Curry.
