National Qualifying Stock Dog Trials Sept. 14-15 in Republic will Benefit Local Youth in 4-H and FFA

REPUBLIC, Mo. -- Members of the Mid-States Stock Dog Association and the Show-Me Stock Dog League will be compete with their working stock dogs in sheep and cattle trials at special event being held in Republic, Mo.

The “Horsin Around 4-H Club and Republic FFA National Qualifying Stock Dog Trials” will begin at 10 a.m. on Sept. 14 and resume at 9 a.m. on Sept. 15 at the Republic Saddle Club Arena,
located at the corner of Miller Road and Lynn, east of the Republic Community Center.

Admission is free but donations will be accepted. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Horsin Around 4-H Club and the Republic FFA.

“The past National Champion and current qualified dogs will be competing at this event,” said Brenda Wieder, an adult volunteer with the Horsin Around 4-H Club. “Come out and watch working stock dogs, speak with handlers and support our Republic 4-H and FFA youth.”

Event highlights include cattle herding with dogs on Saturday at 10 a.m., sheep herding with dogs on Sunday at 9 a.m., vendor booths, raffles, silent auction, swap meeting and onside concessions, with all proceeds going to the Horsin Around 4-H club and Republic FFA.

Tickets on Sale for “Dinner at the Orchard” June 14 to Benefit Greene County Extension and Featuring Locally Produced Foods

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A special upcoming event being billed as “Dinner at the Orchard” will benefit Greene County Extension and feature locally produced foods.

The special evening begins at 7 p.m., Friday, June 14 at Sunshine Valley Farm Café, 8125 E State Highway AD, Rogersville, Mo. Thanks to Michael and Jan Wooten, owners of Sunshine Valley Farm, 100 percent of all tickets purchased benefit “Friends of Greene County Extension.”

Dinner includes appetizers and a complete meal featuring locally produced and grown foods.

The evening includes harp music by Drew Holt, special beverages and good conversation with others who support the mission of MU Extension in Greene County.

MU Extension specialists and staff from Greene County will attend the event to visit with guests and help set up and serve meals.

Jan Wooten serves on the Greene County Extension Council and the Wooten’s have sought information and advisement from MU Extension specialists for their orchards and business over the years.

The event is also a match with MU Extension’s mission and program focus according to David Burton, county program director for Extension in Greene County.

“Greene County Extension specialists are heavily invested in promoting and educating the public about locally produced foods, helping people produce their own food, teaching about good nutrition and helping local businesses succeed,” said Burton. “This event will showcase the impact of those efforts in one location.”

Advanced tickets must be purchased before June 12 and are available at a cost of $50 per person. Tickets can be bought by cash or check at the Greene County Extension office, 2400 S. Since 1914, Greene County residents have sought help from Extension in areas related to agriculture, gardening, 4-H youth, nutrition, families, business and community development.
